September 1 - The Lone Ranger Forced to Give Up his Mask
"Who was that masked man?"
For years after he stopped playing the role of The Lone Ranger, Clayton Moore continued to make all appearances wearing his costume. On this date in 1979, a Los Angeles court ordered the actor to stop wearing the mask. Moore changed his costume slightly after the court order by replacing the mask with similar-looking wraparound sunglasses. He countersued and was able to resume his appearances in costume.
He is the only person on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to have his character's name along with his on the star. "Clayton Moore - The Lone Ranger."
