William L. Boyd died on this date in 1972. William L Boyd played Hopalong Cassidy in sixty-six films. In the first film, Hopalong got his name after being shot in the leg. Hopalong Cassidy (whose name was patterned after Butch Cassidy) was know as Hoppy and his white horse was Topper. In June, 1949 Hopalong Cassidy became the first network TV western.
