The Beauty of Art.

Share a love of art by going on a gallery walk or museum tour. You can also sign up for an art history lecture at your local university.

The Literary Word.

What better way to bond than over your favorite books? Attending a book reading at your local bookstore or university is a great way to find common ground and keep the conversation flowing.

Cultivate Romance.

If gardening is a shared passion, a trip to a plant nursery or arboretum could be a fun first date idea.

Exhibition.

Another great first date option. Either pick a small exhibition, or give yourself a time limit at a gallery opening. Don't leave it open to the whole museum or evening. Tell the person you want to see a specific artist, science exhibit or room exhibit. There's usually free wine at the gallery openings, and great things for both of you to look at. If both of you are interested and have had a good time, perhaps you could even entertain tea or coffee afterwards.

Continuing Education.

Local universities and colleges usually have small, student-driven coffee shops on them. Many nights and days, there're visiting lecturers in every discipline, design, architecture, social science and/or medicine…you name it. Best of all, it's free. You can also meet on campus, walk around and discover a few points of interest that are free and open to the public. You can even sample many venues to treasure: Herb gardens, hot houses, test gardens, fountains, library exhibits and of course, terrific people watching.

Go to an art gallery

You'll learn a lot about the person you're standing next to if you go & check out art together. Plus it gives you something so much more stimulating to talk about than the last episode of The Bachelor!
